The setting up of food policies at European level is a very important process toward the achievement of sustainaibility goals at local and global level. There are some recent and effective experiences that are driving the changes in the food system. Let's see how they works and the cities involved.
In order to propose effective and coordinated actions to change our food system, the creation of food policies is probably becoming the first issue to consider at urban level.
Agriculture, food waste, food aid, research and innovations are all parts of the same picture that should be considered while thinking how to act on our food systems.
Thanks to the experiences presented at the 7th Milan Urban Food Policy Pact Global Forum held in Barcelona in October 2021, it is possible to increase our understanding on the ongoing practices.
The event "European Food Policy Strikes Again" promoted by the Horizon network Food Trails together with the “Food 2030 Project Family” (five Horizon-funded consortia aiming at innovating local food systems, involving 52 cities, of which 21 are part of MUFPP, investing 48 million euro by 2024), has provided an overview of best cases and actions realized to successfully achieved a strategy to promote a food policy at local level.
Additionally this event, showed how funding of European calls can be crucial not only to connect EU Cities with each other but also with cities worldwide.
