Back to 2018 when the project RU:RBAN was approved to be funded by Urbact and started its transfer journey from the City of Rome to other 6 cities around Europe, all people involved in the project had a lot of thoughts and concerns on this policy field.
One of them was considered as critical: How can one build and manage urban gardens? Are Urban Gardens just about gardening in public or private plots, or are they creating something else, that one could call real community hubs? Now that the project implementation is over all involved people (cities officers and Urbact local groups members) are sure that these plots are valuable hubs for each local community and yes, the management model of urban gardens is really critical for their successful operation.
What are the benefits of urban gardens? What are the main results that RU:RBAN wishes to share with other EU cities? What experiences have the network cities gained? These and other questions find
their answer in the article attached here that was written by the Network Expert Konstantinos Karamarkos, taking you through the RU:RBAN journey. Enjoy the reading!
