The Declaration aims to reduce the digital divide which triggers economic and social inequalities. The 9 cities have reached a consensus about a common understanding about successful digital community. Citizens should have access to digital world, have the opportunity to acquire digital skills, and above all, be empowered as digital inclusion is strongly related to democratic participation.
All participating cities have committed to promote digital rights for their citizens. Digi-Inclusion partners will be working, together with the relevant stakeholders of their communities, on their Integrated Action Plans which will be ready by December 2025. Thanks to these plans all partners will be implementing actions at short and mid-term, starting in 2026, which will contribute to transform their territories in a more digital inclusive areas.
The Digi-Inclusion Political Declaration on digital rights is anchored in the European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles. A declaration that puts people at the centre and aims to guarantee, among other things, freedom of choice and participation. The goal of the Digi-Inclusion network is to disseminate this milestone achieved in the city of Iasi (Romania), in order to inspire other European cities to reduce the existing digital divide.
