Summary
Of Belgian nationality, Jean-Pierre Vercruysse was a policy officer at the European Commission (DG MARE) from 2008 to 2017. He was in charge of fostering Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) in the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and was also tasked with the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework for the Fund. Since he retired in 2017, Jean-Pierre became a self-employed local development policy expert working for several teams providing technical assistance to the Commission as well as for DG REGIO.
Before joining the Commission, Jean-Pierre worked 12 years as a researcher in social and economic sciences. He joined the team of the LEADER Observatory in 1992, of which he became the Deputy Director in 2001. Between 2001 and 2008, Jean-Pierre was involved in a series of consultancy and evaluation activities mainly related to rural and local development and managed the communication of the LIFE programme.
He has a degree in journalism and social communication from the Free University of Brussels, speaks fluently French and English and has some Spanish.
