Opening Ceremony and Addresses
The event began at 12:00 PM with addresses from the moderator and the Mayor of Sarajevo, who emphasized the importance of biodiversity in urban environments and the significance of holding such events. In her speech, the Mayor highlighted the need for preserving the natural environment and promoting sustainable practices in cities.
Interactive Lecture on Planting
Following the opening addresses, Mr. Sc. Selma Haračić gave an interactive lecture on the topic of planting, its impact on humans and the environment, and the benefits we derive from plants. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the specific characteristics of various plant species, their contribution to biodiversity, and ecological balance in urban areas.
Planting in Urban Gardens
One of the most exciting parts of the event was the planting, which began at 1:00 PM. Participants, including students and elderly citizens from the Center for Healthy Aging, together planted plants that will enrich the biodiversity of the Urban Garden and enhance the school grounds. Specially selected plants will provide multiple benefits to the school users, including educational and health advantages.
Refreshments, Networking, and Intergenerational Gathering
The event concluded with refreshments and networking for all participants from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM. In a pleasant atmosphere, with music and catering, attendees had the opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas, and contacts, thereby encouraging future cooperation and similar events. Special emphasis was placed on intergenerational gatherings, where younger and older generations had the chance to connect and learn from each other.
This event was an excellent opportunity to promote biodiversity and sustainable development in Sarajevo and demonstrated the importance of community involvement in such initiatives.
