What will have changed in the NGO sector in Latvia and society in general after the Covid-19 crisis is over? 

During the unusual period of Covid-19 crisis, we invited for a conversation Kitija Bite – a doctor of law, member of several non-governmental organisations, faculty member at Latvian institutions of higher education, frequent lecturer at the NGO House and member of the local support group of the URBACT project ACTive NGOs. 

COVID RESPONSE

The impact of COVID-19 had created a serious problem for all partners in implementing much of what they had identified through the MTR and subsequently was agreed at the SGM in Warsaw. All partners are now working in a context of severe restrictions (lockdown is the phrase used in the press). Poland, Romania, Portugal, Italy, UK and Germany all have similar restrictions in place and this impacts on all our partner cities.

In the past 6 months, the Amsterdam Foundation Onschatbare Waarde ('invaluable value’), together with Amsterdam Commons Initiatives, made the beautiful catalog Heel de Stad, Heel de Aarde (the Whole City, the Whole Earth). A guide with all kinds of tips and tools, ideas and projects, people and books for everyone who is or wants to work collectively

EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

5 local training sessions in the partner cities are organized with two of the Amadora key practitioners and anti-rumour agents, Elisa Moreira (Teacher at a Secondary school in Amadora) and Marina Palácio ( Illustrator | comic book author | animation filmmaker | artist-educator). Each workshop includes 3 sessions

Changing perspectives on disability – Ricky and the East Brighton wheelchair basketball revolution

ACTive NGOs met Ricky Perrin (URBACT local group member from Brighton and Hove, UK) in the 3rd Transnational Seminar in Siracusa (IT). Ricky suffered a spinal cord injury in 2006 and is unable to stand up or walk, when we were informed that a person with movement impairment will participate in the meeting, some concerns appeared about a challenge related to rough, paved streets, typical for Siracusa Old Town - Ortigia, which could be quite inconvenient for the person in a wheelchair.
