„Continuing business as usual“ – the case of the Youth Center and Platform for Lazareti during the COVID-19 crisis

Growing Together

Starting July 2018, the Town of Pregrada began its journey of transferring the Good Practice from the Town of Athienou, Cyprus, the town which was awarded the title of European town of Good Practice in volunteering in 2017. The tradition, solidarity, love, care for the weaker members of the community, and volunteering are the main characteristics of this small Cypriot town. By taking part in the project Volunteering cities, the Town of Pregrada heads in the direction of strengthening the participation of its citizens, volunteers, in decision-making process, strengthening the inter-generational solidarity, involving the youth in creating and executing of local policies, volunteering, and involving local entrepreneurs in finding solutions for social problems in the community.

My name is Anastasija Zihareva. I am a former international student from Latvia, currently working within the internationalisation policy projects of Groningen. One of my main project is the cultural agenda for internationals Here & Now in Groningen (www.hereandnow.nl).

The current corona crisis has obviously influenced the way we work and live. And even though it is, of course, too early to assess the full impact it has had on the city of Groningen, it is interesting to have an overview on how the internationals in Groningen have been experiencing the situation so far.

ULG Coordinators of all seven RU:RBAN cities get together... online!

The COVID-19 pandemic the world is presently facing has changed most working methods in every professional sector.  Traditional meetings seem to be something of the past and now we “meet” online, just as the ULG Coordinators of the RU:RBAN network did on 5th May to discuss the points of a pretty dense agenda: the calendar of each city’s next ULG meetings and the topics of their discussions, how the drafting of their regulations is progressing, the participation of ULG members and stakeholders to the bilateral meetings that will take place in May/June between Rome and each of the partner cities, what are the challenges ULGs are facing and how to make their involvement more effective.  

Diary of an international talent in Zlín

The Welcoming International Talent project focusses on welcoming international students and expats in medium sized European cities. Aim is to improve welcoming policies of these seven cities with various projects. But how do internationals themselves experience living in these welcoming cities? A NEW ROLE FOR URBAN GARDENS IN OUR CITIES?

Can urban gardens be developed as meeting points for modern local communities, or are we " light-years away" from such novelty in terms of urban development practices? An answer to this question could be found in RU:RBAN: urban agriculture, nowadays in the shape of urban gardens managed by citizens, is stepping away from being seen only as the practice of growing vegetables within the municipal territory of our cities.
